Abstract: Substance abuse disorders (SUDs) remain a global public health concern, disproportionately affecting male populations. Emotional dysregulation, defined as the inability to modulate emotional responses to stimuli appropriately, has gained increasing attention as a potential contributing factor in the development and perpetuation of SUDs. This study explores the prevalence and severity of emotional dysregulation in male patients diagnosed with SUDs. Utilizing validated assessment tools such as the Difficulties in Emotion Regulation Scale (DERS) and the Substance Use Disorder Diagnostic Schedule (SUDDS), we investigated the relationship between emotional instability and substance dependence in a clinical sample of 100 male patients. Results indicate a strong and statistically significant correlation between emotional dysregulation and substance use severity, with opioids users demonstrating the highest levels of dysregulation. These findings support the integration of emotional regulation strategies into addiction treatment programs to improve therapeutic outcomes and reduce relapse. The study calls for continued longitudinal research and the development of gender-responsive interventions to address emotional deficits in male populations with SUDs.
