The study of enrollment of girls students in secondary schools of Dasholi block of Chamoli district in the context of women education

Abstract: The present study investigates the enrollment trends of girl students in secondary schools of Dasholi block, Chamoli district, focusing on the broader context of women's education and empowerment. Recognizing the crucial role of women's education in national development, the research emphasizes that empowering women through education leads to stronger societies and sustainable growth. The study identifies key challenges faced by women's education, such as lack of equal educational opportunities, societal attitudes, administrative shortcomings, insufficient infrastructure, shortage of teachers, and limited hostel facilities for girls.
The study adopted a quantitative approach, utilizing secondary data collected from ten secondary schools across Dasholi block for a period of five academic years (2019–2024). Enrollment data for both boys and girls were compiled and analyzed to understand gender-based enrollment patterns over time. The total enrollment figures showed a cumulative registration of 5,363 boys and 6,402 girls, indicating a positive trend towards increasing female enrollment.
The findings reveal that the enrollment of girl students has significantly improved over the studied period, reflecting changing parental attitudes and the impact of government initiatives aimed at promoting women's education. Various state and central government schemes have contributed to enhancing awareness about the importance of educating girls, thereby facilitating their inclusion in the mainstream educational system. The study concludes that continuous efforts are necessary to maintain and further improve these trends, ensuring equal opportunities for women to actively participate in the nation's development.
