Instapoetry is a new genre of poetry which is shared on Instagram, Tumblr and other social media platforms. It has certain characteristic features such as concision, unconventional form, visual elements, and modern themes.

In this paper, the authors present an overview of these features of Instapoetry within the context of India which will help literary researchers navigate the field of instapoetry where some of the most prominent poets have an Indian background.

More specifically, the authors argue that despite being seemingly new, all of these features of Instapoetry have been present in world literature, especially Indian literature, for a long time. This will, the authors hope, create more acceptance for instapoetry and pave the path to serious scholarly investigation of this relatively new literary genre.
