Author(s): Rinchen Dorji
Abstract: The study is carried out at Sarpang Middle Secondary school among 100 students from class VI to VIII to understand their reading culture. The study also aimed to evaluate the impact of a recent reading program initiative by the school during morning hours and how the reading habits has changed with the integration of ICT. Interventions implemented, which spanned over a period of three months to enhance reading habits among students included a prescribed reading time of 30 minutes before the first period with access given to library (both hard copy books and e-reading) and Wi-Fi. The survey was conducted both before and after the intervention. The findings showed that inclusion of e-readers during the reading program led to a slightly increased time spent by students in reading, especially by those students who spent minimum time in the pre test.
