Structural dimensions of vocational education and training for sustainable development: Indian and German Perspective

Abstract: Vocational Education and Training (VET) holds great potential for socioeconomic mobility and sustainable development with the enhancement of productivity, and optimum utilization of human resources available in India. VET is conceptualized in the broader context of poverty reduction, growth, and decent work which drives toward achieving sustainable development goals. VET is on top priority in the fastest growing economy country like India increasing employment or making youth an entrepreneur. The paper refers to a comprehensive review of VET in India, along with a comparative analysis of successful VET systems in Germany. Indian skilling system, initiatives and policies of VET, current challenges of implementation, and the German vocational education system are critically pursued. The empirical, survey and statistical analysis was done in concert to reach the objectives of the study. Results are promising and pave the way for skill development of Indian youth. Discussion in this paper surrounds the many facets and challenges faced in integrating sustainable development in underlying principles and models developed for application in vet. Finally, the paper recommends higher industrial involvement to create a stronger robust VET system.
