Citizenship values in the education system of Congo-Brazzaville

Abstract: The school is a social and educational institution responsible for the intellectual, moral, social and sometimes physical training of individuals, generally from a very young age. It constitutes an organized framework where learners receive structured instruction provided by qualified teachers, according to an educational program defined by the competent authorities.
It allows for the dissemination of common values, norms, and rules that guide a society and strengthens solidarity among members of the national community. Today, despite the efforts of Burkinabe public authorities and even private ones to provide education to all children, we observe among adolescents aged 15 to 18 in Congolese society a less than glowing image in terms of social and civic values.
Indeed, corruption, incivility in all its forms, indiscipline, theft, failure to keep one's word, etc. have become a characteristic of this youth. What is the responsibility of the Congolese school in the crisis of social and civic values among high school students?
This research is part of a double theoretical perspective: Holism and methodological individualism.
At the methodological level, the study was purely qualitative. The reasoned choice technique was used for sampling and interviews were conducted using semi-structured interview guides. At the end of this research, we note that teaching programs are disconnected from the sociocultural and economic realities of the country; the school is now reduced to its instructional function (it no longer educates); many teachers lack vocation, competence and motivation; some teachers negatively influence their students in terms of social and civic values. As a result, civic spirit in high schools in Congo-Brazzaville leaves something to be desired; integrity and honesty have become rare values; social cohesion, tolerance and solidarity are increasingly diminishing and respect for the authority of the State needs to be rebuilt.
