Author(s): MV Praveen and T Vineethan
Abstract: This study explores the influence of artificial intelligence (AI) on teaching and learning behaviours in Kerala’s higher education sector. A total of 150 teachers and 150 students from urban, semi-urban, and rural institutions participated in surveys and qualitative interviews, selected through stratified sampling. Statistical techniques, including independent t-tests and one-way ANOVA, were used to analyse the AI driven behavioural differences and emerging trends in higher education sector. The results indicate a significant shift in classroom dynamics driven by AI integration. Students, being more digitally adaptive, actively engage with AI tools for personalised learning, real-time feedback, and independent exploration. Conversely, teachers show a more reserved adoption pattern, shaped by concerns around digital literacy, pedagogical integration, and the need for adequate training. The findings highlight a growing trend toward student-centric learning and evolving instructional methods. However, successful AI implementation depends heavily on institutional readiness and robust infrastructure. The study recommends targeted teacher training and the development of inclusive, context-sensitive AI tools to ensure effective and equitable integration across Kerala’s diverse educational landscape.
