Homoeopathic management of auto brewery syndrome: A holistic and promising approach
Author(s): Himani Shah and CS Sharma
Abstract: Auto Brewery Syndrome (ABS), also known as gut fermentation syndrome, is a rare metabolic disorder characterized by the endogenous production of ethanol in the gastrointestinal (GI) tract due to microbial fermentation. ABS is not only rare but also potentially underdiagnosed. Patients with ABS often experience symptoms such as dizziness, cognitive impairment, ataxia, chronic fatigue, and gastrointestinal discomfort. Diagnosis is typically confirmed through blood ethanol levels, carbohydrate challenge tests, and gut microbiome analysis. While conventional treatments such as antifungal therapy, dietary modifications, and probiotics are commonly used. Homoeopathy, with its holistic and individualized approach, offers a promising complementary strategy for managing ABS. By focusing on restoring gut microbial balance, enhancing immune function, and supporting metabolic regulation, Homoeopathy provides a natural and non-invasive option for patients. This article explores the pathophysiology of ABS, its clinical manifestations, and the potential of Homoeopathic interventions to offer long-term relief and improved quality of life.
