Exploring the phonological and grammatical distinctiveness of the Sindhi language
Author(s): Jayesh Durgadas Sharma
Abstract: The Sindhi language, an Indo-Aryan tongue rooted in Sindh region and sustained by its diaspora worldwide, stands out for its exceptional phonological and morphological traits, distinguishing it from closely related other Indo-Aryan languages. This paper delves into Sindhi’s vowel-ending structure, systematic nasalization of vowels, unique consonant repertoire, and intricate use of postpositions, while also tracing the profound influence of Arabic and Persian phonology on its development. Through detailed grammatical analysis, and enriched with illustrative examples, this brief study is an attempt to highlight Sindhi’s melodic resonance, phonetic complexity, and grammatical versatility. These features not only underscore its linguistic richness but also affirm its significance as a subject of study within the broader Indo-European family, offering fresh perspectives on its historical evolution and cultural interplay.
