Abstract: Tourism plays a vital role as a social, cultural, and economic phenomenon that fosters human development and global understanding. This study explores the multifaceted nature of tourism in western Rajasthan, focusing on its evolution, impact, and potential. The region, known for its rich heritage, desert landscapes, and vibrant traditions, offers a diverse tourism experience ranging from ethnic, eco, religious, and village-based tourism to cultural and adventure-based tourism. Post-independence, tourism in the region has been a key driver of employment, poverty alleviation, and cultural preservation. Key cities like Jodhpur, Bikaner, Jaisalmer, and Barmer serve as epicenters of tourism activities, reflecting both historical legacy and modern hospitality. Initiatives such as village safaris and local religious tours strengthen rural economies and showcase Rajasthan’s folk culture. The study also highlights the importance of tourism information systems and emphasizes the need for sustainable and culturally sensitive development.
