Floral diversity degradation and its conservation
Author(s): Rajbala
Abstract: Floral diversity, encompassing the variety of plant species within a given region, is fundamental to ecological balance and human well-being. It supports essential ecosystem services, including nutrient cycling, soil stabilization, climate regulation, and the provision of food, fiber, medicine, and energy resources. Angiosperms, representing the largest group of land plants, exemplify the richness and ecological significance of plant diversity. However, growing threats such as land degradation, deforestation, habitat fragmentation, pollution, climate change, and unsustainable exploitation are causing rapid declines in plant species worldwide. Understanding the complex pathways through which these pressures impact floristic diversity is crucial for developing effective conservation and restoration strategies.
